Breaking Barriers Initiative

At Empowered Roots, we aim to take a multi-faceted approach to addressing the systemic barriers and inequalities people of colour face. So, we present to you the Breaking Barriers Initiative. It is aimed at identifying and dismantling the barriers that prevent people of colour from accessing equal opportunities for education, employment, housing, healthcare, and criminal justice system reform.

What is it?

The Breaking Barriers Initiative focuses on addressing a specific racial disparity every four months, as a strategic and impactful approach to promoting social change. By selecting a particular racial disparity, Empowered Roots can concentrate its efforts, resources, and awareness campaigns effectively in that area.

What do we hope to accomplish?

By selecting a specific inequality every 4 months, the initiative can delve deep into understanding the root causes of systemic barriers, analyze existing systems or structures perpetuating such inequalities, and propose effective strategies to address it head-on.

How do we hope to accomplish this?

Firstly, we strive to raise awareness about the specific challenges faced by people of colour through workshops, seminars, discussion panels, and public campaigns. Secondly, we are dedicated to influencing policy changes at local, national, and international levels by advocating for legislation that tackles systemic racism head-on. Lastly, we aim to conduct research that carefully examines oppressive structures, shedding light on marginalized voices and experiences that are often silenced or overlooked.

Breaking Barriers Initiative: Volume 1

This marks the inaugural volume of the Breaking Barriers Initiative, which will run until December of this year. After-which, we will move on to volume 2 of the Initiative. Our aim is to tackle various racial disparities by dedicating each four-month period to a specific systemic barrier. Swipe to see our first volume and the particular challenge we will be addressing as an organization.
